Porter Explorers

The Porter Explorers Project is a six-week program for students in grades 3-5 and 6-8. The purpose of the project is to engage students in a unique interdisciplinary higher level thinking educational experience. Using environmental learning as a core theme, the students participate in hands-on, inquiry based learning activities. Students work to investigate their environment using creative, critical and divergent problem solving processes. Students work indoors with interactive displays, high-tech biotechnology lab. The Porter Explorers investigate the outdoors in the ecologically diverse Big Creek Corridor. A variety of high-tech and Web 2.0 components are incorporated into many of the investigations (e.g., blogs, wikisites, digital graphics, biotechnology instrumentation, etc.). This wikisite will be used to enable student collaboration and the publication of environmental research information by each of the Porter Explorer research teams.
